Such a beautiful island. Surrounded by beaches, and providing numerous high mountains. We conquered Mt Aorai in 2 days. Picked raspberries off bushes along the track. Hiked in 30 degree heat, all the way to 8 degrees when hiking closer to the top. Slept in a small bungalow with a hard wooden floor. Played Uno to determine who would win the only air mattress. Reaching the summit at about 6:30am, I experienced the most incredible sunrise I have seen in my life.
The beaches live up to its reputation, crystal blue waters and beautiful underwater creatures, perfect for snorkelling. I experienced for first ever sunset on an ocean horizon! Living in the east of Australia, I had only seen sunsets on the mountains and land.
Fruit trees - mango, coconuts, papaya, breadfruit, bananas - line the streets. I picked a mango straight off a tree and ate it. Haha loved it.
We took a ferry to Tahiti’s sister island, Moorea. This is where we snorkelled, ate wild sea urchin, and discovered the beaches and bungalow resorts you see on post cards.
Tahitians live a chilled lifestyle. They are all super friendly. One night we had a flat tyre, and 3 people decided to stop and go out of their way to help us.
Can’t wait to go back. Determined to explore the rest of the islands in the French Polynesia.
